Expansion and Upgrades to Enhance Onslow County’s Emergency Response

Smith Sinnett Architecture delivered comprehensive design services for the Onslow County Emergency Operations Center, including Master Planning, Architecture, Interior Design, and Construction Administration.

The project adds 11,900 SF to the existing 10,000 SF facility. The expanded space significantly strengthens the county’s ability to respond to extreme weather events. The center functions as a central dispatch and staging hub during emergencies, supporting coordination across multiple agencies.

A 3,550 SF dividable meeting room anchors the new addition. Dual video walls and full audiovisual integration support real-time communication and decision-making. The layout includes two breakout conference rooms and an employee cafeteria with a warming kitchen. Expanded restrooms, showers, and locker facilities enhance support amenities.

To ensure full operation during high-impact storms, the design withstands wind speeds exceeding 150 mph. The team reinforced the existing structure and upgraded the adjacent fire station, recently acquired by the County. Interior finish improvements across both buildings create visual and functional continuity throughout the campus.

The result is a durable, high-performance facility that helps Onslow County Emergency Operations Center respond quickly and effectively in any emergency.
