The Reidsville Readiness Center consists of a 700sf entry lobby addition and 1400 square foot classroom addition to an existing 23,000 square foot National Guard Armory. The iconic roof line, window patterning, and exterior masonry detailing of the original building, designed in 1979, by renowned NC modernist architect Brian Shawcroft, was carefully complemented in the new construction.
The renovation features new doors, windows, roof insulation and membrane, electrical and HVAC systems, interior finishes, the conversion of the indoor firing range into storage and offices, as well as a substantial reconfiguration of the kitchen, restrooms and locker room areas. Site improvements include additional parking, new gravel and grading at the military vehicle area, new security fencing and gates, as well as a Memorial Plaza. The Memorial Plaza consists of masonry pavers, cast-stone seat walls, site lighting, along with a reassembly of the existing statues, monument pedestals, and flagpole.
