A Flexible, Collaborative Setting for Project-Based Learning
Based on the Dixon Middle School prototype, the 136,095-square-foot Trinity Middle School provides a technology-rich, flexible learning environment for 950 students. Learning extends beyond traditional classrooms into spaces distributed throughout the building for individual work, small-group collaboration, and larger instructional activities.
A daylit central commons anchors the school, creating a welcoming gathering place for interaction and shared learning. The design also incorporates a full-size gymnasium that supports physical education, assemblies, and community use, along with efficient circulation, durable finishes, and integrated support spaces.
Smith Sinnett Architecture provided master planning, facility needs assessment, architectural design, and construction administration. The team worked closely with the district to align the facility with its educational and operational priorities while carefully planning construction phasing and sequencing.
Sustainable and performance-focused strategies include:
- Reduced curb and gutter to minimize site disturbance and construction costs
- Optimized building orientation and daylighting to improve energy efficiency and occupant comfort
- Energy-efficient LED lighting
- Ducted air-return systems that help reduce sound transfer
